Travelling day over the Island to the Pacific Ocean on the west coast to Tofino. We had booked in at the 'Bird and Breakfast' for three nights. The owner was horrid, the rooms were basis and the breakfast was awful, but, unfortunately, everywhere was booked up as this was prime 'surfing time'.

We saw Californian Sea Lions at Combers Bay and went on another Whale Watching trip. The Pacific Ocean is not as gentle as the Atlantic and the waves out at sea were tremendous. Our boat literally flew through the air on several ocassions, hitting the Ocean with a tremendous whack as it landed. We had concerns that Pete would be sea sick but he coped really well! We spotted a Humpback and a Gray whale travelling together, which is really unusual, but due to the swell of the waves, our photos are mostly of sea!

We spent the morning doing all the walks in the Tofino State Park – these trails are between 0.5 and 2 kilometres long, with boardwalks and signs for points of interest, so they are not strenuous in any way!
At 14.00 we attended a lecture and a film on Sea Otters and at 20.00 went to the ‘Cougar, Bear and Wolf talk – this was hilarious, although the message was serious. The guy who did the talk had a tremendous sense of humour and we will never forget some of his lines –‘Bear bells, who needs them – just take a kid, you’ll never see anything’. And for the Cougars – ‘Am I one person hungry or two persons hungry today.’ The accompanying stories were excellent and perhaps this talk should have been given to everyone entering the State Park.
Some trees were a lot bigger than this
