Cambell River

We travelled out to the Campbell River, staying at the Best Western Austrian Chalet.  This was a lovely surprise as we had been upgraded to a suite with 2 double bedrooms in a loft and a double bedroom and a lounge and kitchen downstairs, so we had 4 large televisions - it was bliss!
Next morning, we drove out to Strathcona via Elk Creek.  The Cambell River was packed with Salmon waiting for the rains to fill the runs to the spawning grounds.  Fisherman lined the river pulling out the Salmon - they might as well have used a bucket.  Interestingly, there are strict quotas in place for inshore Salmon - a maximum of 2 per person of a certain size may be taken - most fisherman were ignoring this rule.

Strathcona Park had lovely trails to follow and we saw a Rufous Hummingbird and a crayfish.  On the way back to the Hotel, we spotted two Beavers busily collecting material for their lodge on a small pool they had created - watching them provided the perfect end to a really lovely day.
